More changes to parent visas – Australian Parent visas – Brisbane migration lawyer

Parent visa rules are changing again – but this time it’s good news for parents and their children.

Background: as of 1 April 2018, the Government changed the rules in relation to Assurance of Support requirements. Briefly, you had to prove a lot higher income to be able to give an assurance of support than prior to 1 April. Also, the rules were retrospective, in that they applied to the 2 previous financial years as well.

I posted a video about these changes only a few weeks ago:

Due to significant pressure from migration professionals, the Government has agreed to voluntarily undo these harsh changes, and go back to the old rules. Apparently, the new rules (i.e. the rules which applied before 1 April 2018) will be in effect from 23 May again – let’s see if it happens but I will be updating you as soon as there is more information.
